Poll: How often do you take photographs?

Reader Poll 01

Hi There…

Welcome to something new that we’re trying, here on Beyond Phototips! A reader opinion poll. This is all about what you, the reader, think about photography.

Some times, people forget that photography is about actually “taking” photographs. It does not happen very often, now that you don’t have to go out to the store to “buy” film, but it still does happen. At some time or the other we tend to get obsessed with technique, gear, what others are doing in the world of photography; and we miss out on actually taking some of these ourselves.

We’re all guilty of this crime at some time or the other; just to different extents.

At which end of the scale are you?

The poll will be open for a week, so do stop by and let us know what your shooting schedule is.

  1. I put every week, but the reality is that its often more frequent. If there is something worthy of photographing I will photograph it. That could be daily or that could be weekly. The frequency is dependent on subject, lighting, my creativity and my schedule. Personally I try to take advantage of every photo opportunity I can.

  2. I try for every day, but I don’t always have the time or opportunity for that. So I shoot every weekend certainly, and every week day that I have the time to go out. I did manage to snap ~12,000 shots last year, and I’m on track to beat that in 2008 (though quantity certainly doesn’t say anything about quality, or even frequency of shooting).

  3. @Jim: Eric brings up the issue of Quality vs. Quantity. Now, I certainly do not see you as having an issue with either. I love your photographs, and I continue to see you creating opportunities to make great photos. That shows in your work.

@Eric: I took a peek at your blog and Flickr… You’ve got some good stuff going there! Quantity is always good, but like you said, you do need to keep track of the good photographs. Possibly delete the bad ones… I’m sure you have some Gems in the 12,000 from last year… and the 12k++ from this year.

  4. I voted for “every week” on this one. I’m kind of random though. Some weeks I’ll shoot every day. Some weeks I won’t even pick up the camera. On average, I’ll probably shoot 10 days out of the month.

  5. I would like to take photos every day, and I carry my camera everywhere, but the reality is more like weekly. I generally *keep* about 1,000 photos a year.

  6. I take anywhere from 10 to 400 photos in a day. I do a daily photoblog along with my brother (a competition thing) to see what kind of subject we can find. Always looking for something new! I also do special photo shoots for people I know. Last was 400 shots at a graduation last week, will shoot 200-300 today at another. A day in the life! PF.
